Fragrances of all costly perfumes or cold sprays of deodorants smell artificial the moment first drops of rain touch the parched earth. We all love to bask in that aroma. Right?
The light drizzle or the scenic downpour trigger many emotions, normally the romantic ones. Foodies love to gorge on nice, hot & spicy ‘Pakoras’, ‘Samosas’ while sipping ‘Adrak Chai’, while some of us love to drench in the rains. Obviously, because we have endured the searing heat of summer for over two months. Only the scorched know the unexplainable pleasure of soaking in the rain.
Monsoon is setting in and it is effecting broad smiles on our faces. But be careful, the pleasant rainwater can cause skin diseases. This happens because the air is moist during the rainy season which makes the climate humid and damp. Such climate is an ideal breeding season for bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Moreover, water logging worsens the situation further. Skin-related problems increase during this season mainly due to fungal infections.
In this article, we will talk about few of them and suggest remedies for them. Here they are.
- Athlete’s Foot: Continued exposure to dirty water for a long time causes this disease. The skin turns greenish with pus-filled scaly and itching patches. You can get relief by using antibacterial or antifungal powder or by soaking your feet in water-vinegar solution.
- Ringworm: An ‘O’ shaped ring-like infection occurs on the neck, soles of the feet, or in the armpits. Avoid scratching the infected area and wearing skin-hugging clothes. Treat it by applying anti-fungal powder or cream.
- Infected nails: Accumulation of dirt and mud beneath the nails leads to fungal infection in hands and feet. Humidity during monsoon builds-up sweat under the nails causes such infections. Use antifungal powder and keep nails short.
- Eczema: Eczema is a chronic skin condition where itching, bleeding sores, and patches appear on the skin. Damp weather aggravates the disease. Applying salt and magnesium on the affected areas provides relief. Coconut oil provides relief from itching and burning sensations.
The above diseases are certainly not life-threatening. So, you need not worry. Still, you need to take care. We want you to enjoy the season whilst staying healthy and free from infections and diseases. We, however, recommend you to consult your family doctor or a dermatologist in case of severe skin problems.
