Summers have started becoming more and more scorching of late. Monsoon provides the much needed relief from the summer heat as rain pours down with all its might, quenching the earth’s thirst and taking care of all our water needs. However with monsoons, comes the risk of waterborne diseases and infections. There are certain health risks brought by monsoon that people need to be really careful about. The following are some tips that will help you safeguard yourself this monsoon:-

  1. Avoid road-side food at all costs. Water and vegetables are not hygienic at this time of the year. Follow a healthy diet at all costs.

  1. Use a good quality insect repellent to keep mosquitoes at bay and prevent yourself from getting bitten. The over cautious can take a dose of antimalarial drugs.

  1. Try to avoid walking through water at all times. It can lead to numerous fungal diseases of the feet, heels and nails.

  1. Drink enough water, regardless of your activity levels. Herbal teas with antibacterial properties are always a good idea.

  1. Keep clear of damp and wet walls. Damp walls are home to fungal growth and are a strict no-no if you suffer from asthma or any other breathing problem.

  1. Always carry an umbrella or a raincoat to avoid getting wet in the rains. If you get wet in the rains, wash your hands and legs when you reach your destination and immediately get into dry clothes.

  1. Have a bath twice daily in monsoon, using dettol or any other mild antiseptic. It will help you minimize the chances of catching an infection.
