How Ayurveda keeps you healthy in winter?

How Ayurveda keeps you healthy in winterWinter – the season we all love to enjoy. We love it not because of the cold, but because the season provides us options to keep ourselves warm like wearing fashionable woolen clothing, eating hot food, drinking hot beverages, staying indoors and sitting in front of a fireplace or just travel to warmer places.

Winter may be good for most of us, but it brings health concerns for many. The season has earned a bad name for causing ailments of the skin, eye, hair, and respiratory disorders. Winter is also known as the season of flu. It’s the season when infections and contagious diseases spread easily and rapidly.

Yet, according to Ayurveda experts, you need not live winter, suffering from infections and common diseases. Actually, winter is the best season to improve your immunity. If you know how to increase your resistance, winter can hardly affect your health.

To know how you can improve your immunity during winter you need to learn the unique concept of immunity prescribed in Ayurveda. “Bal” is an Ayurveda word for immunity which literally means “strength”. “Bal” includes psychological and spiritual resistance. “Bal” provides strength against any change in these areas.

Here are few suggestions on how Ayurveda can keep you healthy in winter.

  • Increase resistance by eating immunity-boosting foods which are fresh, organic, easy to digest, pure and wholesome. You can include organic milk and yogurt, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and ghee.

  • Avoid eating foods that are hard to digest. Also, it is good to stay away from processed foods, canned, frozen, and packaged foods as they are heavy to digest and hence weaken immunity.

  • Never consume leftover food especially those with chemicals and laced with preservatives. Such foods hit the digestive system and obstruct circulation, which creates a sluggish immunity.

  • Prefer to use Ayurvedic medication for winter-related ailments of your skin, hair, eyes, respiratory and digestive disorders. Ayurvedic medicines are free from side-effects and they help you build your resistance power.

Finally, enjoying winter is absolutely in your own hands. You will feel energetic and fresh for the entire season provided you ensure to care for your health through Ayurveda.

How to retain health during Diwali festivities?

How to retain health during Diwali festivitiesDiwali is just around the corner. The weather has changed from humid to cold and breezy. The lights are about to come out to brighten up your mood. It’s the time to show off the perfect dress code earned after working hard for the entire year.

Diwali is a unique festival across the world. A festival that spreads the message of unity and brotherhood amidst a lot of celebration. Celebrations include bursting crackers, visiting family and friends, and gorging lot of sweets. From the long list of visiting friends to the limitless munching of snacks and sweets, Diwali is definitely the time when you lose track of your eating and fitness habits.

So, we have prepared a list of definite ways to retain health this Diwali…

  • Eat healthy food

Replace fatty foods, ghee-laden sweets and fried stuff with fruits and low-calorie sweets. Avoid eating sweets coated with silver foil. The foil is often adulterated with aluminum. It is dangerous for your body.

  • Stay hydrated always

Keep yourself hydrated. It is considered as the best and effective way to prevent during and after festival health problems. Staying hydrated refines your body, helps satisfy hunger pangs, and removes waste.

  • Avoid synthetic sweets

Avoid eating artificial sweeteners. They contain aspartame.  Aspartame is reported to cause brain tumor or cancer. Preservatives increase the risk of damage to kidney or liver. This Diwali, opt for sweets made from sugar or jaggery.

  • Say no to alcohol

No matter what the celebration time calls for, but you should say a big NO to alcohol. Alcohol causes dehydration which can cause other health issues. Sip on fresh fruit juices and soups.

  • No crackers

Although doing this will be difficult for most of you but it is better to enjoy the festivities without the noise and air pollution caused by crackers.

  • First Aid kit

Always keep a First-Aid kit handy because there are chances of health issues while lighting crackers or some other health issues. We recommended keeping a First-Aid kit that includes inhalers, eye drops, antacids, cough drops, skin cream etc.

Finally, you must try and stick to your normal routine as far as possible. Your health and fitness is a very important part of your life and you should never compromise on it for anything. The above tips are simple and doable and we are sure they will help you maintain your health.
