Fomentation means local application of moist heat by means of cloth wrung from boiling water or from steam tank. Follow this procedure for the same - Apply Knivitol Liniment Plus to the affected area. Wring out one bath towel from boiling water. Spread the dry towel on the table and wrap the hot towel. Apply the hot towel to the body area to be treated, over the dry towel. Change fomentation every 5 minutes or till it gets warm or cool. Don’t wait till towel get cold before removing it.

Fomentation in English Dictionary literally means the application of hot moist substances to the body to ease pain.(e.g the material applied in fomentation : POULTICE). Fomentation is refered by the term Swedana in ancient Ayurvedic literature. It is a sweating treatment whereby diseases of Vata and kapha imbalance are treated . It should neither too hot nor too mild-combined with proper herbs and applied with taking into account – the diseases, the season, the individual patient and organ affected by the diseases.Prior to swedana (Fomentation), Snehakarma (oleation=application of oil to body part/whole body, again depends on the diseases, the season, the individual patient and organ affected by the diseases. ) is necessary. Even dry pieces of wood can be bent by oiling(Snehan/snehakarma) and heating (Swedan). Similarly, Doshas can be balanced with oleation and fomentation. Use Knivitol Liniment Plus for snehakarma and after it, use a poultice of hot sand for fomentation (i.e. Swedana) and experience excellent results
